New York has so much to offer especially for those who love to sketch. (Bus, Subway, Train, etc.) I've been really trying to push myself these past couple months to draw every chance I get. Here's a bunch of sketches from a short trip I took visiting family and friends back in L.A.
This drawing was done for a wonderful charity called the "Picture Book Project." It was founded by Rachel Tiep-Daniels and Margaret Wuller. The objective is to create a coloring book for children with artwork from many artist around the world. Our assignment is to 1.) do a line drawing for kids to color and 2.) the artists rendition. Anywho here's what I came up with.
I did this piece for the "Terrible Yellow Eyes" project. It is a collection of works inspired by the beloved classic, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. Enjoy!
Akileos, publisher for Rendezvous, was generous enough to give us a hefty extension on our stories, which is raising the bar that much higher. And the art I have seen thus far from the other artists has been truly an inspiration. Crap! Now I have to work that much harder! :)
Awhile back, I was asked to do some development work for a wonderful Halloween tale written by Randy Link and Christopher Link. Unfortunately the project is still under wraps, but they allowed me show a couple of the paintings I did for them. Hope you enjoy!
Late last year I was invited to contribute a story for the second volume of "Rendezvous". It took me quite a while to figure out the story and layout, but there's no way I would have been able to do this without the help of my friends. I began rendering about a week ago so here is a sneak peek of the first page. 11 More to go!
It's Feb and I still can't believe how insane this year has been so far! I've really been trying to find time to post more often, but I just can't seem to find the time these days. But for the time being, here are some paintings for a commercial house that was done a while back. Hope you enjoy!
Happy New Year everyone! Wowza.. I can't believe how busy things have been, but especially with the next Ice Age wrapping up, it's only getting crazier. I'm also working on another project, but there'll be more info to come later. For now, here's a quick little poster I made for a church out in Queens. It was for a high school retreat that took place awhile back. Thanks Jake and Pete for the crit.
Oh! I almost forgot. A bunch of the Blue Sky folks are part of the Society of Illustrators 51 exhibition! If you're in town, you should definitely go take a peek!
So things have been pretty busy lately, but here a commission piece I just wrapped up. I really tried to subtly incorporate translucency throughout the water and in in the ears. Well I hope you enjoy! Congratulations with your new son Rich!
I did this tonal for a blog dedicated to authors/ literary figures. Many fantastic artists have contributed sketches and illustrations so if you have time, feel free to take a look!
I chose my favorite book growing up written by Roald Dahl.
So the Drawforce gang got together, and decided to start this up again. We'll try to keep this going for as long as we can! Check out the new post: Batman!!
So a month or two back, I had the privilege of finally being introduced to Leuyen Pham from a colleage of mine, Willie Real. We briefly discusses doing a trade, so I just went ahead and did this drawing. I liked the direction from the initial Totoro piece in the subway, so i decided to do another on a bus. I haven't decided, but i may try and continue to a series of public transit themed drawings. Hopefully she'll want this piece!
